Anthony Abrahams TD DL MBA MCIArb joined the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators as its new Director General, on 10th April 2012.
Qualified as a Solicitor and specialising in Civil Litigation, Anthony has considerable hands on experience in Legal Practice Management, which he has reinforced academically gaining an MBA with distinction from Nottingham Law School. Anthony also sits as a Deputy District Judge.
Anthony moved to CIArb from Charter Chambers where he was Chief Executive, and prior to that Group Managing Director at Kain Knight Group plc.

Anthony’s legal background has been complemented and enhanced with leadership and organisational skills, acquired in the Territorial Army where he attained the rank of Colonel. Anthony was mobilised in 2006 to undertake an operational tour in Iraq, working to develop the Rule of Law and dealing with Human Rights issues there.

Anthony is involved with a number of Military Charities caring for the needs of service personnel and their families, as well as local and national charities. Married with three children, Anthony enjoys, or suffers, supporting Northampton Saints with his family and has recently taken up sailing

Jérôme Grimaud is a humanitarian worker. He devoted his first missions to protective accompaniment in Central America and to frontline negotiations in the Middle East before becoming a psychosocial support delegate of the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He gradually specialized in the field of protection, conflict sensitivity, humanitarian access as well as humanitarian mediation and dialogue facilitation, both as a practitioner and a trainer. His humanitarian negotiation and mediation experiences range from negotiating access of medical agencies and civilians at check points in the Palestine territories to facilitating humanitarian mediation processes in the Central African Republic. For the last three years he has developed and piloted third party neutral humanitarian mediation initiatives aiming at improving protection of civilians and humanitarian access for various NGOs, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Red Cross. He is currently working as a roving humanitarian negotiation and mediation field delegate, both with the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). He is also a mediation trainer for the Canadian Institute for Conflict Resolution and provides training on humanitarian negotiations and mediation within the Harvard University’s Advanced Training Program on Humanitarian Action, the Centre of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiations lead by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as well as the European University Network on Humanitarian Assistance (NOHA).

Rana started her career in New York supervising foreign banks and later became a London-based economic/financial consultant with Big Four advisory firms. The majority of her consulting work has been setting up and executing restructuring projects where there has been an intercultural dimension, working in and leading cross cultural teams across Asia, the Middle East and Europe and the USA. For over fifteen year, Rana also has been a Director for not for profit organisations that promote the engagement of the British-Arab community through dialogue with the UK government, parliamentarians, NGOs and with civil society at large. Since 2015, Rana has taken a more active role utilising her skills to support organisations dealing with the current worldwide migrant and humanitarian crisis. She has been assisting leading NGOs/human rights and immigration lawyers in providing legal and resettlement support to Syrian and other Arabic-speaking unaccompanied minors from the Calais camps and beyond. Her role has involved interpreting, facilitation, mediation and setting up partnerships across London which support resettlement. Rana is advising a consortium of migrant support charities and NGOs across London. Both Rana’s professional and personal experiences have led to her pursuit of intercultural/cross border corporate and workplace mediation whilst she continues to pursue her humanitarian mediation work for migrants and refugees.

Vasheist V. Kokaram is a Judge of the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago having assumed office on 20th April 2009. He was a Partner of the law firm Messrs M.G. Since 2010 she is also a professor at the Police Academy of the Community of Madrid. As a researcher, she has
directed several research projects and is currently working full time on a research project of Criminal Procedural Law at the Complutense University of Madrid. Maria is a lawyer and has published more than 50 publications on various topics in prestigious law journals. She has directed more than 40 accredited courses and seminars and was a member of the Board of the Robert Schuman Institute for European Studies deste 2002-2012.

Fernando Rodríguez Prieto has been a notary since 1988,and performs also as arbitrator and mediator. He has been promoter from the Notarial College of Madrid of the Signum Foundation, an institution dedicated to study, disseminate and provide professional services in the field of out-of-court dispute resolution, with a special effort to extend quality mediation in Spain. Fernando is currently Patron and Executive Vice President of the Institution. He has written numerous papers, articles and chapters on civil, commercial, real estate and notarial law, and specifically on ADRs, a subject in which he has been interested both in his theoretical study and in his practice. He has been mediator in numerous civil, family and commercial conflicts. He is part of the group of mediator notaries of the CNUE.

Maryam Salehijam was awarded an LL.M. in International Laws and an LL.B. in European Law by Maastricht University. Currently, she is a PhD researcher at the Transnational Law Center of the University of Ghent where she focuses on the legal issues pertaining to the use of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in commercial disputes. Her specific research questions focus on the validity and enforceability of ADR agreements, the obligations of the parties to an ADR agreement, and whether such legal questions can be regulated at the international level. Maryam is also a member of YMI, CEPANI40, and OGEMID. Moreover, due to her international background, she is a native speaker of English and Farsi/Persian, intermediate in Spanish and French, and beginner in German and Dutch.

Prabha Sankaranarayan, the president and CEO of Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI) will be representing her organization this year at the World Mediation Summit. With her involvement in regional, national and international civic activities in civil liberties, sexual violence prevention, conflict mitigation and mediation and the recovery and rehabilitation of trauma survivors, Prabha has a wide array of experience which she currently uses in training and presentations nationally and globally. We are happy to have her speak on behalf of the MBBI organization. The MBBI mission is to emphasize inclusivity and cultural competency. They promote the awareness of the many contexts of conflict including the impact of trauma on communities and aims to keep the people affected by conflict at the center of peacebuilding. They help to build local skills for peace and promote mediation worldwide.

Vishal Shamsi is a lawyer, mediator, principal trainer and representative at National Centre for Dispute Resolution (NCDR) in Karachi, Pakistan since 2013. She has trained over 300 individuals from all over the country including senior civil judges, police officers, community elders, social and political workers, religious clerks, chartered accountants and lawyers, in the art of mediation. An ADR group accredited mediator, Vishal mediates civil, commercial and family disputes. She is also a lecturer of ‘Legal System and Method’ for University of London International Programmes. Jo Vlahos is a qualified barrister, New York attorney and mediator. As the Head of Assessment – Governance at the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Jo is responsible for one of the few providers of Alternative Dispute Resolution offered by a regulatory body. The Conciliation Service assesses and conciliates complaints against the Association’s members and firms and seek a mutually acceptable resolution to the complaint. It is unique in that performs a regulatory function whereby it can investigate a complaint further if serious regulatory breaches are identified. ACCA is recognised as an ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) provider by the UK Chartered Trading Standards Institute.

En mediación, es miembro del equipo de Mediación Penal adscrito al Juzgado de lo Penal nº1 de Alcalá de Henares.

En la actualidad dirige el Gabinete de Psicología Clínico-Forense EASO y es Presidente y miembro fundador de la Asociación de Mediación MEDIARGLOBAL, de la que es, en la actualidad , su presidente.

En el año 2011 publicó el libro “Interrogatorio. Tecnología de la comunicación en el ámbito jurídico” (Edit. Difusión Jurídica 2.011), y en el año 2012 “Despropósitos de la comunicación humana” (Ed. Crealite 2012).
